Days keep flowing by…

Work has been good lately, hours are starting to stablize, and the light at the end of the tunnel for my current project is in sight!

Feb 16 saw the release of Monster Hunter 2 (Dos) on the Playstation 2. I’m credited in the special thanks for sound design, so I have added it to the gameography. It is an excellent game, so if you are interested in the import, I highly recommend you pick it up. Everyone at work was excited to see it finally released.

On Feb 14, I went to see The Prodigy and Boom Boom Satellites here in Osaka. I was terribly unimpressed by BBS. Basically they had the same stage schtick and song structure. Was it cool for one or two songs… Yeah. Was it cool after I’ve seen the same repetitive loop, same stage posturing, same heavily fuzzed guitar followed by uninspired solo after 4 songs. Nope. It is a shame, because I really wanted to like them.

The Prodigy on the other hand, now that was a great live show. Even though some of the songs don’t work all that well live (Hot Ride being the prime example) others are just incredibly fun to hear live. I really enjoyed No Good (Start the Dance) and Poison, as well as some unreleased tracks that rounded out the set. They also did an excellent job of mixing old material with new and unreleased. It’s funny though, The Prodigy could probably play 2 - 3 entirely different sets and I would enjoy them all equally because I love so much of the catalog.

Unfortuntately, I won’t be able to check out NIN and Ferry/Armin at Global Gathering. Not having been back to the states in nearly 2 years, I’ve decided to prioritize and spend time with my Dad on the 18th instead. I’m sure working off some jetlag is going to be instore that day as well. I am planning on checking out Ferry at Crobar on March 23 if anyone else is interested. Since I’m going to be flying on March 26, sometime that week (probably the 24) the South Florida crew should all gather up for a trip to Billard Club for my birthday. Rob and Frank, I put you two in charge.

Finally, I highly recommend you guys check out the new Dilated Peoples CD 20/20. It is incredibly good hip-hop, and makes great BGM for playing FPS on-line. Speaking of FPS - Is March not going to rock for the 360? Burnout, GRAW, and Battlefield 2. I’m not picking up Black since apparently it sucks (EDIT: I picked up Black, and I’d does not suck one bit), and I’m still on the fence with Fight Night; however, there is no way I’m missing Burnout, GRAW, or Battlefield. I also got a call today from the local game store that my preorder for the DS Lite is looking iffy. Basically white allocations have been cut severely, and Blue, despite being delayed 9 days, is looking to be cut as well. So my blue preorder seems to be completely shit upon. Thus, I will most likely be getting in line on Thursday morning. Maybe if prices support it, I will throw it up on eBay.

A Scanner Darkly

I’m going to post later with a new game in my gameography, as well as a brief review of The Prodigy/Boom Boom Satellites show I went to; however, I wanted to put point out a new trailer for Richard Linklater’s “A Scanner Darkly”.

I’m going from this to the sunny paradise of Florida from March 17 - March 26. We comin’ to America!! If you request my presence at any event, want to go eat any kind of food (Arby’s, Taco Bell, Ribs, Brazilian, Cuban, etc.), get wasted at the Billiard Club like days of old or just go walking around malls and watch me shit on EB employees, drop me a comment. Basically this is just a decompression trip before the hell of E3 rush begins and my new projects ramp up full speed. So it will be lots of buying games, clothes, dvds, etc.

Anyways, I can’t wait to see everyone, so make your best effort to hang out and or have gay sex with me brokeback style.

I leave you all with the glory of Lil’ Jon.

Sleeping with the enemy

Got home from a great day at work today, and found that Mai has received the coveted Nintendo Recruitment booklet which has been making the rounds on gaming boards. It really is an amazing piece of work.

Lots of high quality paper, both matte and gloss, as well as embossing, a turn wheel insert, a DVD of the TGS keynote, and lots of “designer” gatefold spreads like this one.

If she gets a job there, I guess I’ll be sleeping with the enemy… And if she doesn’t, I’m selling that booklet on eBay for the $$$$$.

In blogging news, I added some photos to the gallery so check them out.

Finally, is anyone looking at this site with IE 6 or 7? Does it look right, or do the navigation tabs look funky?

My Phone

So I have had a DoCoMo D902i for a while now, and I want to say it is the best phone I have had the pleasure of owning.

It isn’t the small form factor. That is just a bonus.

The best feature of this phone is the lucious 2.8in WQVGA display, and the fact that every interface option seems to be built around melding to what you want to do. For instance, the mail icons on the wallpaper screen are transparent PNG files, so they will match the color of your wallpaper. Multitasking can be activated by a simple button press on the side of the phone. Talking can be triggered by pressing the slide button that triggers the spring loaded slide of the phone, matrix style. Everything works how you’d like it to work.

My only gripes are a couple of Japanese input text issues, and the lack of bluetooth. Other than that, everything works as it should… Much better than my piece of shit Sharp SH900i. Sharp makes nice screens and TVs, but their phones hold up as well as an HP laptop.
